What are the 4 Steps to the process of Mummification?

  • Cut in the abdomen, which is below the ribs, on the left side of the body. Use a knife and a ordinary metal blade
  • Take out the organs and place them in a canopic jar. The organs that were put inside the jar, would be the stomach, lungs, intestines, and liver. These organs would be protected by one of the sons of Horus.
  • Next, the brain would be extracted, through the nose and then thrown away. Resin would be poured through the nose by using a funnel to keep the head from collapsing. The heart was saved for last, so it can be weighed and guided through the soul into the under world. Every other part of the body, was saved and placed inside the tomb with the body or was given to the relatives.
  •  Lastly, the body and organs would be preserved with spices and dried out  with natron salt.  The spices that were used in the preservation process made the body look brown and leathery.
